Date night
10 date-night questions for a more interesting evening
Pick one question, both answer out loud, and follow the story it starts. These ten prompts give you somewhere more specific to begin than the usual daily update.
Ten questions to try tonight
These are real cards from the app. Start anywhere; there is no need to work through the list.
- 01
Date Night · LET’S TALK If tonight had a theme, what would you choose?
Pick one small detail you could actually make happen tonight, even if the rest stays imaginary.
- 02
Date Night · LET’S TALK What would our perfect three-hour date look like with no spending?
Work with places and things you already have. The interesting part is what each of you would make time for.
- 03
Date Night · LET’S TALK What would you like us to cook together, even if it goes wrong?
Compare the dish you would enjoy making with the one you would enjoy eating. They might be very different answers.
- 04
Date Night · LET’S TALK Which nearby town or neighbourhood would be fun to explore as if we were visitors?
Name the first stop you would make. A specific route is easier to picture than a vague promise to explore.
- 05
Date Night · LET’S TALK If rain cancelled our plans, what would be our backup adventure?
Each suggest a backup before you choose one together. Keep both ideas if they fit different moods.
- 06
Date Night · LET’S TALK What would you put on a menu named after our relationship?
Give the dishes names and explain them. An ordinary meal can have a very good backstory.
- 07
Date Night · LET’S TALK What tiny date would you like to plan for us?
Make this one small enough for a normal weekday, rather than saving it for a special occasion.
- 08
Date Night · LET’S TALK What would you like us to do on a date that we have never tried?
Either of you can rule an activity out. Look for something you are both curious about.
- 09
Date Night · HIDE & REVEAL Which song would I play first on our date-night playlist?
One person makes a guess about the other, then checks. Swap roles and play both songs if you can.
- 10
Date Night · WHERE DO YOU STAND? A date at home deserves the same attention as a night out.
Each say whether you approve, do not approve, or think it depends, then explain what attention would look like to you.
How to turn the list into a conversation
Put one phone between you and read a question out loud. Let one person finish before the other answers, then swap who goes first on the next card. You can use this page without downloading anything.
The aim is to hear the detail behind an answer. If your partner suggests a place, ask what they imagine doing there. If they choose a meal, find out whether it reminds them of something. A single follow-up is plenty; leave room for the conversation to wander.
Avoid treating the cards like a test. You do not need matching answers, and an unexpected answer is something to explore rather than correct. The guessing prompt is an invitation to compare, not a measure of how well you know each other.
Which questions fit a quiet night in?
Start with the meal, menu or tiny-date prompts if you want an easy evening at home. You can answer while chopping vegetables, waiting for dinner or sitting on the sofa. Choose a moment when you can both give an answer some attention; you do not have to stage a whole event around the list.
If you would like something to do alongside the questions, try these five at-home date-night ideas. Each has a short version for an evening when energy is low.
What if a question does not fit?
Skip it. You can choose another subject without explaining why, and neither person owes the other an answer. A playful planning question may suit tonight better than a question about your relationship, or the other way around.
For a broader mix of everyday observations, memories and small future plans, use the conversation starters for couples.
When should we stop?
Whenever you feel like it. If one answer becomes a long story, stay with that story. If you try two questions and go back to your evening, that works too. There is no list to complete and no score to keep.
